UBC Meeting minutes 9/14
UBC Meeting
12:18-12:49
Meeting notes
Discussed importance of bringing grievances to a conclusion. Seven out of 8 have been settled.
Do we need to deputize additional UBC reps? Faculty/staff should use the elected members of the UBC to represent them.
Faculty raised questions about mentoring/committees announced at staff meetings. What are the guidelines? Do we think this should be mandatory? Committee meeting times should not require extra hours. We need guidelines and procedures in writing from administration.
The running of the school is a UBC concern. Administrators should be aware of this and involve the UBC in decision-making process. The UBC should have one voice. Concerns and issues should be put in writing and carefully discussed/formulated before being brought to the administration.
Discussion of interim report procedure that begins today. This may need more discussion for next interim period.
We need clean up sheets/attendance slips updated. Hopefully the latest attendance strips will be up to date and have all of our students on them.
Concerns raised for the next UBC-Admin meeting
Ms. Zheng still needs a paraprofessional. Administration is attempting to hire one. Meanwhile, substitutes seem to be mostly unavailable.
Textbooks – some teachers have shortages and they may need to be ordered.
Clarification of mentoring/teacher partnerships and committee membership guidelines and what is mandatory.
Role of the Dream Team
Shared decision making with faculty
Attendance clean up/list of absences (this may have been resolved)

UBC meeting notes & chart of ongoing issues
9/28
UB members present: McCachren, Doyle, Wooten, Butcher, Brown, Scerri, Belluomini
1. Discussion of decision-making process on interims.
Pros: Goals were met, staff helped transfer files, finished in one day
Cons: Transporters were confused when teachers passed on interims by themselves, cross-community students created confusion, loss of academic time
* Group agreed to do it again as long as files continue to be available in counseling office Mon-Wed for use by PE, electives, etc.
* Proposed that only students receiving Ds, Fs, Ws, and/or Us receive interims
1. Comp time for back to school night and 6th grade orientation
* Need to request dates from administration (NOTE: See your box for form from Dr. E!)
1. Construction – issues include dust, asbestos, disruption of learning
* This will be difficult to deal with as we also try to raise our test scores
* We should make a list of questions we would like answered
* Could the school be moved to another site for the year?
