MICHAEL MCCACHREN : BUILDING RPRSNTATIVE CANDIDATE:
I am committed to preserving the influence the UBC enjoys at this site.
The strong UBC and committed, open process of the SSC and its bylaws
have always helped keep this site at the forefront on many venues,
including master schedule, fair and honest evaluations,
student-centered site-sourced curriculum, faculty involvement at the
highest levels.

FROM LENDA BUTCHER-MYERS
A vote for me is a vote for bringing teachers together. I will help
build a
cohesive union that isn't biased and values openness. Everyone's
concerns need to be met, but we can only do that if we work together.
I will listen to the rank and file teachers. I will begin to implement
policies more efficiently and with a strategy of teamwork.
When faced with tough decisions these are my 3 priorities:
1. Is it in the best interest of our students. Such as: Offering
CHALLENGING curriculum that allows them to critically think about the
quality of their education and challenge teachers when the class isn't
challenging enough, & last enforcing Community responsibility. I feel
these skills will help empower them with a sense of self pride in their
school community.
2. Will the decision directly align with my responsibility to the
students which is providing them the BEST EDUCATION possible. If it is
busy work, trash it if it doesn't relate to improving student learning
and their motivation.
3. How will the decision effect the Climate: Having trust in
administration that they will do
everything possible to support us with school policies; however, I am
willing to kindly update them when we feel their responsibilities in
the policy is appearing to lack which
directly effects are daily job of delivering curriculum.
I would like to express my concern for our teachers know as the PARA's:
that they are represented in the Union and are given the same
opportunities & securities as other teachers because without them we
would struggle and burn out.
Last, I would like to invite Maria, Ken, Nancy, Jennifer, Toby, Big D,
and the cafeteria staff for input on certain decisions because of their
KNOWLEDGE of the Mechanics of this school. I think their input could
make our jobs and their jobs easier.
If we want the teamwork that we all talk about, than we must involve
all the players.
I look forward to hearing from all of you, and I hope you will embrace
a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
First of all I would like to thank you for the nomination. I am excited
to bring my energy, training and experience to MLK's UBC if elected. I
am aware of the tradition of MLK's UBC, in fact I googled UBC
Representative and the first 4 sites that popped up were MLK AMS.
I have extensive training and experience in interpreting and protecting
the laws that govern us. Becoming more familiar with our contract and
protecting our union rights is a duty I look forward too. I also have
years of training and experience in working with people in reaching
common goals. I am a TEAM PLAYER and will always fight for what is
right.
I do believe we need to choose our battles wisely and based on my
experience here at MLK these last years, which has not been the case.
Many feel this has been a hostile work environment and it is time to
make a change for the positive.RESPECT is a two way street and everyone
here deserves to be respected. We all have roles and need to live up to
them. Policies need to be in place before the end of each year for the
next. I look forward to the 2009/2010 Academic school year.
Next year will be my 8th year in education with over 15 years working
with children in some capacity. I have been in management positions
and always find a way to work things out in a positive way.
In conclusion, I believe MLK has the potential in becoming a Premier
middle school of San Francisco- because of its dedicated staff----NOW
we need to fine tune what we have to reach this goal I believe we all
share.

I have been working in SFUSD for the past 34 years, as a deaf education
teacher, a counselor, a dean, and as an Assistant Principal. For the
past 3 years I have served MLK as Dean of Students. I am passionate
about serving the needs of the students and helping out my co workers.
I am tenacious, have an intense work ethic, and am extremely loyal.
